While I guess there probably are some people that buy them simply to get better gas mileage, they are misinformed. If you want to be environmentally friendly and save money, you should just buy a used car or at least a new economy car. The batteries in a Prius are damaging to the environment and expensive to replace, and all you get in return is 10 mpg more than a fuel efficient car. Take the difference that you would spend on a new or used economy car and calculate how long it will take until you actually start saving money. That's not even taking into account the battery replacements you'll have to do. Chances are, you'll never see the savings.

Do you really think he would be pushing Natural Gas if he didn't have a major stake in it, or same thing with the wind power. He is dumping a good amount of money into wind power, and he wants to get his Wind farm in the middle of nowhere (where it should be) hooked up to the grid so he can start making money. This isn't for the greater good (even if that may be the end result) this is for the good of T. Boone Pickens. We shouldn't view him as an environmentalist, but as a capitalist who is taking advantage of a situation for potentially huge returns, and for that he should be admired.
