FRIDAY

:: quintron & miss pussycat ::

[via Panache]

“Quintron has been making genre-defying noise and “Swamp-Tech” dance music in New Orleans for over fifteen years. The majority of his ten full-length albums have the psychedelic soul of New Orleans garage R&B filtered through a tough distorted Hammond B-3 and a cache of self-made electronic instruments. He has also released strange soundscapes based on inner-city field recordings of frogs and neighborhood ambiance … The Quintron and Miss Pussycat live show is one of barely controlled electronic chaos, “Swamp-Tech” dance beats, small explosions, clothes, and entertaining puppet stories.” -Panache

:: jeff: the brotherhood ::

[via myspace]

“When it comes to JEFF the Brotherhood and Nashville, there are two kinds of people: those that love their music and those who haven’t heard it yet. If you are in the former group, you most likely already own this album; if you belong to the latter, then stop reading this and go buy it right now. JEFF’s fast-paced blend of psychedelic garage rock has been waking up neighbors from surrounding basements for a few years now, and as a result a steady fan base has emerged … now they’re back with a new album, The Boys R Back in Town … Gone are the one to two minute bursts of quick bullet music in exchange for some extremely ambitious songwriting” -The Deli, Nashville

:: golden triangle ::

[via Panache]

“A confluence of talent from Memphis, Austin, and Atlanta that’s converged in Brooklyn, Golden Triangle is the definitive garage/post-punk/show band for these trying times. A forceful, graceless slam-together of dark, strummy pop with party atmospherics and a coldly serious streak of idol worship, Golden Triangle is a cramped vehicle for ideas, in which the B-52’s, the Fall, the Birthday Party, and the Cramps are forced to co-exist.” -Mexican Summer

:: pc worship ::

[via myspace]

“PC Worship have a more ragged, basement appeal than much of the Shdwply catalogue, with a crude, DIY psych edge that feels closer to the homemade aesthetic of the early Twisted Village sides than the glazed psych-pop most associated with this amazing label. NYC Stone Age feels like a collection of tracks put together over a period of time and it veers into a bunch of mutually fucked zones: there are some honking brass-led jazz breakdowns that match Joshua Burkett-era Vermonster in terms of excessively-damaged free-rock motion, the kind of claustrophobic private basement psych that would erect temples around Vulcan’s Meet Your Ghost LP and some zoned pop/drone songs. Another great one from a label that can pretty much do no wrong.” -Volcanic Tounge

SATURDAY

:: bad credit no credit ::

[via myspace / Nicki Ishmael]

“With support from instruments ranging from slide whistles, tubas, melodicas, saxophones, clarinets, and flutes, [Carrie Anne Murphy's] voice dominates the burlesque/ chamber sounds that emanate from the group … Live, her presence is undeniable and quite arresting” -Adequacy

:: the selmanaires ::

[via myspace / Stevie Brown]

“Influenced by the sounds of myriad cultures and eras, The Selmanaires play a musical collage that dances the border between tradition and experiment … Their dynamic is based on a mutual love of the hyptnotic sounds of Can & Kraftwerk, Brazilian Bossa & Tropicalia, and 60’s pop from all around the globe … Their latest album, Tempo Temporal, was self-released in humble form in October 2009. Engineered & mixed by Mike Wright (Black Lips) & Graham Marsh (Cee-Lo), on the outside it is a sonic departure from the previous recordings, but the essence of the band’s off-kilter approach to pop music remains.” -Last.fm

:: carnivores ::

[via myspace]

“To get a handle on where Carnivores takes their roots, it requires a psychedelic trek into lo-fi tropicalia, lounge and death-afflicted sound collages that defy easy categorization … every rhythm, melody and yearning voice is placed exactly where it’s needed. The spirit of punk is undeniable in its presence, but the experimental bend of the songs is on par with the likes of Animal Collective, Faust and even the harmonic complexities of early Beach Boys records.” -Creative Loafing
