MONDAY

:: child bite ::

[via myspace]

“…ferocious and bursting with angular punk energy. The organ and guitars twisted themselves into a fury and chiselled out an aggressive attacking sound that shook and rebounded like a tennis ball full of carcinogenic mayonnaise. They adopted avant-garde time signatures and abrasive piercing guitar riffs to fire their point across and it resulted in one the best records out of Michigan in years. ” -Artrocker

:: buck gooter ::

[via myspace]

“When they started my mind was throttled. I couldn’t pin what they were doing down. The band consisted of young boy Billy Brat programming drum machine and beating the shit out of a theremin, also yelling his ass off. The other member was old man Terry Turtle, who was on the other end of the musical spectrum with his tripped out guitar strumming and singing. I heard some Big Black when Billy Brat was screaming over electronic drums and I heard some Niel Young when terry turtle was doing his thang. Weird but cool.” -Witchmond

“THIS is how you do the whole disjointed-genius, Jad-Fair-channeling-Van-Dyke-Parks thing. You get eight or nine buddies to play every instrument in the world and then take yourself about 3 million times less seriously.” -VICE

THURSDAY

:: the state lottery ::

[via myspace]

“Yeah, this record is pretty much awesome. There is no hyperbole in that statement either. Just imagine what might happen if you extracted the DNA from The Lawrence Arms (which itself contains some Jawbreaker DNA), Lucero, and The Weakerthans, added some yellow #5 coloring and filtered out most of the alcoholism and you’ve pretty much hit the nail on the head when it comes to The State Lottery” -Can You See the Sunset

“Fred Thomas, of City Center, has teamed up with his friends Shelley, Dina (who also plays in Secret Twins, among others) and Amber (formerly of Dos Hermanos, among others)  to form Swimsuit … Fred and friends channel this vaguely surf influence into their music, and their first live set that was posted on the City Center blog has me pretty excited.  Just like Saturday Looks Good To Me and City Center…Swimsuit seems to have the same magic that Fred and company bring to everything they are involved in.” -The Great Pumpkin

:: pet milk ::

[via bandcamp]

“I stumbled over this on a mailinglist I am a member of, and fell in love at once. The band I’m talking about is called Pet Milk, and it’s a new band from Philadelphia. They share  members with other favourites of mine, Brown Recluse and Paint it Black, and describe their music as ‘Noisy twee pop with ladyvocals. Songs about ex-lovers’. It’s really, really good.” -Eardrums
