“On his solo record Ghost Town, he’s using many of those same glassy, treble-heavy electronic tones, but just as P&L can replace guitar and bass with unfamiliar sqeals, Friel goes further and replaces the drums, the vocals, and pretty much the whole band with the wheeze and skronk of electronic instruments. “Since moving to Brooklyn, Musarra has started working on a new full length LP, one that looks to bridge the gap between meticulously tweaked A.D.D. laptop experiments and more ‘conventional’ songs written with a sort of avant-rock sensibility. This transition is already apparent in the live-band incarnation of Hearts of Darknesses, featuring members of electronic rock band Stars As Eyes and various guests playing anything from saxophone to tambourine. The songs are still composed and recorded on a laptop in a home studio, but the live band evokes memories of Brainiac, Polvo, and other bands that have little to do with computers.” -SXSW bio

“Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Ken Rei has been making experimental electronic music since 2005. Beginning in their basement studio, Adrian Bertolone, Andreas Tekus, and Irsten Horowitz used drum machines and samplers creating space noise and bass beats. Over time, the guys have refined their approach, and developed a unique sound out of a gamut of formal music training and DJ experience. Today their instrumentation includes bent toys and game boys, vintage samplers and drum machines, turntables, and keyboards—but absolutely NO midi cables or master clock sync—setting them apart from the growing masses of I-Pod DJs and laptop rockers.” -Last.FM

“Dino Felipe has made music since the age of 6 on tape recorders embracing the 4track at age 16 and ever since filling tapes up with musik, until he financed a gateway when he was 21. Dino was in what are now called “noise” bands from the age 16-21, although he hates the label “noise”, only beacuse he strictly believes it is MUSIC. If attempted to be described Dino’s music is psychedelic, electronic, with large pop infusion and piles of ideas compressed into a song.” -Last.FM

local favorite duo turned trio, BK via the northwest – guys have basically carved out a genre with their unique guitar loop rhythmic drone soundscape that has turned from near ambient psychedelia toward a more beat-driven sound over the past few years.  always psyched to have them play.
